Liz is enjoying the opportunities available with her role at Greenhills Florist.

With a Certificate II in Floristry (Assistant) and work experience under her belt, Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions’(MWLFS) Cessnock Disability Employment Services jobseeker, Liz, is thriving in her job at Greenhills Florist.

With her drive to work and interest in flowers in mind, MWLFS supported Liz to complete her Certificate II Floristry (Assistant) qualification at TAFE where her passion for floristry bloomed. When she was ready to look for work, MWLFS assisted her through the process of finding and completing work experience at Greenhills Florist where she impressed the business owner, Robyn, and the team so much that she was offered a job.

Liz’s tasks include helping to create beautiful floral arrangements, purchasing items for gourmet gift hampers and delivering arrangements to customers in Maitland, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri.

In the six months since Liz commenced in her role, her confidence has bloomed and she has taken on increased duties.

Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions’(MWLFS) commercial kitchen training space, ’The Café’, made possible by funds raised at Mai-Wel’s 2017 Annual Gala Ball, is a valuable resource for job seekers to experience first-hand the equipment and processes of a commercial kitchen.

Twelve jobseekers are currently using the space for their Certificate II in Kitchen Operations delivered by Teresa Campos of REACH for Training.

The thirteen-week course is delivered two days per week at the MWLFS Maitland office, incorporating classroom-b cased learning and a full day of practical activities in The Café. Additionally, participants will complete 20 hours of work experience in the kitchens/cafés at Club Maitland City and Opal Rutherford aged care.

At the completion of the course in mid-June, participants will have the skills for various hands-on roles in kitchen environments including aged care facilities, pubs, clubs and cafes.
