Here are just a few of the faces you might see around Mai-Wel’s Get Started, Step Up and Thrive initiatives.

Hi Tracey!

What do you do at Mai-Wel?

I am the Service Lead of the Maitland Step Up initiative. My responsibility is to implement employment opportunities for people with disabilities in our area.

What do you like most about your role?

Working in Employment, I see a profound impact that employment can have on someone’s life. I have the privilege to provide support to people who need it most and help them to become more independent and confident in their own abilities. Every day is a chance to do something different and make a difference in the community.

Who inspires you?

Anyone who is willing to better themselves.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

Having travelled through Europe, Thailand and Fiji, I think I am very lucky to call Australia home. There’s no better feeling then seeing the outline of the Australian coast from above and touching down on Australian soil.

What do you like most about working at Mai-Wel?

What isn’t there to love about working at Mai-Wel?  The culture, people and participants are all wonderful. Having worked at Mai-Wel now for nearly nine years, everyday I learn something new. I love my job because everyone shares the same vision and is dedicated to the mission to provide opportunities for people with a disability to achieve their dreams and goals for life.

Hello Chelsea

What do you do at Mai-Wel?

I am a Lead Support of the Maitland Step Up initiative. I am responsible for being the eyes and ears out on the floor, ensuring that participants are receiving the highest quality of service and support to assist in achieving their individual employment goals.

What do you like most about your role?

Meeting new participants – the interaction with each participant, I love hearing their stories, their goals and their achievements. I love knowing that the support I provide helps each individual to achieve their goals, develop their confidence and being able to see the growth in each participant as they enter into the world of work.

Who inspires you?

I am inspired by individuals who make decisions that are consistent with their ethics and integrity and whom exhibit courage when their decisions may not be popular at the time.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I absolutely love Japan- the people, their culture, the food and all the beautiful places. I was fortunate to participate in a school exchange program when I was in high school and I met some truly amazing people.

What do you like most about working at Mai-Wel?

I have worked with Mai-Wel for approximately five years. I love the inclusiveness that Mai-Wel is. Every day I am exposed to so many different people, including staff and participants. Mai-Wel is like one big family who have come together to provide opportunities for all.

Hey Lisa!

What do you do at Mai-Wel?

I am a Support Worker with Step Up. As a Support Worker my responsibilities are to discuss participant’s goals and how we can best assist them in meeting these goals. I also organise a range of environments for participants to practice and improve on their skills.

What do you like most about your role?

I enjoy getting to know the participants and helping them build skills to meet goals they have set for themselves. I enjoy seeing them achieve or attempt something new – it’s very rewarding.

Who inspires you?

My brother, Adam. He has a disability and has had many health issues but this doesn’t stop him from being happy, positive and living his best life.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I love anywhere warm and sunny, especially somewhere by the beach. Forster, NSW is one of my favourite places to holiday.

What do you like most about working at Mai-Wel?

The beautiful, warm and genuine greetings I get from the participants each morning when I arrive at work. They set the mood for my day.
